The Norfolk & Suffolk Broads G R E A T Y A R M O U T H
River location: Seaside resort on the River Bure. Breydon Water joins the Bure. The link point for the Southern and Northern Broads.
Facilities: Visitor moorings (24hr Free) near Great Yarmouth Yacht Station (assisted) on the East bank. No access to the sea for hire boats. Fresh water. Pump out. Diesel. Pub and shops nearby.
The River Bure flows through Great Yarmouth and out to the sea at Gorleston on Sea. Large boats dock along its banks close to the town centre. The rivers are tidal and the ebb and flow makes for a tricky passage through to Breydon Water. At high tide few boats can get under the bridges and the recommended time for passage is low water. On no account can hire boats be taken through Yarmouth at other times as the tidal flow is too strong. There are visitor moorings at Yarmouth Yacht Station, where it is a short walk to the shops and pubs. It is not safe to moor at any point between Burgh Castle on the Waveney, the Berney Arms on the Yare, and Stracey Arms on the Bure. Great Yarmouth is famous for it's beach and entertainment and in the summer months is a thriving holiday resort. It is the link point between the Northern and Southern Broads, the meeting of the rivers.
